Meditation
Class and practice
Meditation offered at Olalla Guest Lodge consists of a formal
class followed by regular practice sessions two nights a week. The class
covers some basic techniques, such as proper posture, breathing and
focus of the mind plus a guided meditation.
Meditation at OGL is taught by certified meditation instructors with
many years as experienced meditators and who are also in personal
recovery from addictions.
Meditation benefits all aspects of daily life, bestowing upon us a
sense of calmness, clarity, and well-being. Meditation can be practiced
by anyone, regardless of beliefs or formal religious affiliation. The
benefits to body and mind are well established by modern medical
research.
Meditators can experience a decrease in heart rate, drop in blood
pressure, oxygen consumption falling by as much as 50% and a change in
blood chemistry. Stress hormones can fall to lower than usual levels as
meditators develop an anti-stress or relaxation response and gain the
ability to enter a deeply relaxed state at will.
Meditation is—
When the mind and body are still and the heart is open
Listening; prayer is taking to God or with your own Higher Self,
meditation is listening for answers; developing intuition; tuning
into intuitive guidance.
Concentration; taking the mind off many things and placing
it on one thing at a time.
A discipline; it takes practice and forming new habits,
attitudes and thought patterns.
