Highlights of Treatment Approach for Women
Spirituality is the Focus
Authentic Native American Spiritual Circle is facilitated by a
recovering Native American Elder of the Pine Ridge Lakota Tribe.
“Journey Through the 11th Step” class focuses on a meditation technique
and is taught by a recovering meditation instructor. Also the Yoga
Postures.
Physical setting is out in the country; deer roam the property! A
walking trail surrounds beautiful tree-lined property overlooking Colvas
Passage (whale migration is seen in Spring/Fall).
Clinical program language tie-in to a Higher Power as outlined in the 12
Steps.
Woman-only Treatment is Practiced
Women patients are only allowed limited contact with male patients. This
promotes building of trusting relationships with each other in a
female-oriented community.
Separate building houses only women patients.
Small female-only groups allow women to bond and know they are “no
longer alone in their addiction”.
Abuse issues are identified (sexual, physical, verbal, etc), assignments
are given to address with counselor and appropriate referrals are
included in discharge planning.
Hands-on, day-to-day conflict resolution is taught as female patients
learn to “live, work and grow” together.
Focus is Women Learning Empowerment
Self-esteem, co-dependency, guilt/shame, perfectionism, depression,
domestic violence are areas addressed.
Developing a personal relapse-trigger prevention and recovery plan is
required.
