Planning for Your Recovery Stay

Planning for Your Recovery Stay

Your insurance has been sorted out, an arrival date has been picked, and you’re getting ready to start your journey through recovery. This is a huge step, and an exciting time for you and what the future holds. Now, what do you need to do to get ready for your stay?

When packing, stick to the essentials, this will help you avoid any distraction. Bring a few things that remind you of home but remember to check that everything you are packing is an approved item in the recovery center you are attending. It is important that you read the instruction packet and understand what items are allowed and what you are provided to know how to best prepare yourself. Remember to call your recovery center with any questions and they can answer anything that is not covered in the materials provided.

The list below are some common items that could help you think about what you want to pack, and hopefully alleviate some of the stress or anxiety that you may be feeling in anticipation.

  • List of phone numbers or addresses for people you might want to contact
  • Stamps or envelopes if you want to mail any letters during your stay
  • Alarm clock
  • Insurance cards and forms of identification
  • Notebooks or journals

Take this time before leaving to not only pack and plan, but also to enjoy those people in life who are cheering you on and supporting you through this next chapter. Let them know how much they mean to you and how grateful you are for their support through it all.
