Our Holistic Approach

Yoga & Meditation

Our philosophy towards treatment is a holistic approach.  Recovery from addiction happens not just in the mind, but in the body and the entire lifestyle as well.  Patients enjoy the ability to relax and unwind in the yoga and meditation services offered.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture detoxification is offered two times per week at our residential site by a licensed acupuncturist.  The focus is on withdrawal from substances and to reduce anxiety and stress.  Acupuncture is a modality that assists the body's natural detoxification process to relieve craving and other withdrawal symptoms.  Acupuncture also assists with relieving anxiety, insomnia and agitation.  It can also assist the body's endorphin production to cope with stress and can act as a balancing component to treatment.  It is part of our focus to treat the whole person ~ body, mind & spirit.  Acupuncture has been proven to ~ aid in relapse prevention, be non-addictive, induce a sense of well-being, reduce cravings, has very few adverse reactions.

Nutritional Education

Throughout the stay with Olalla, patients will receive exceptional meals prepared onsite by a delightful kitchen staff.  All meals are balanced and complete to help the patient replenish their bodies with wholesome nutrients.  Patients will also participate in an educational lecture on nutrition and how proper nutrition affects their recovery.

Relaxation Training / Fitness Walking

In addition to the other areas offered to address the whole patient, patients will learn various relaxation techniques and can use the fitness trail that circles the property to meditate, reflect, exercise, etc.  On the trail, patients may encounter eagles soaring overhead, Northwest native birds singing, deer grazing in the meadows, flowers blooming, or even squirrels busy at work.  By walking the gravel path, patients can begin to ponder their future path of recovery.

Native American Spiritual Circle & Teachings

fire1Olalla Recovery Centers is blessed to have Native elders facilitate the Native American Spiritual Circle once a month.  Patients have told us this was one of the most moving and spiritual experiences they have ever encountered.  Patients and staff have long believed the site of Olalla Recovery Centers is a highly spiritual and sacred setting.  In addition to the spiritual circle, patients experience a "burning/smudging" ceremony once per week.  During this ceremony, patients are given the opportunity to "let go of the past" by burning written material and are smudged (blessed) with an Eagle feather and sweet grass or sage.  Patients may also participate in a class that incorporates the Medicine Wheel, a Native American traditional teaching.  This involves seeing the whole person ~ body, mind & spirit and emotions as an integrated part of creation.  Patients are shown how addiction involves the whole person and that recovery must also involve the whole person.
